Testosterone for Women

Women need testosterone

Testosterone is a hormone produced by both men and women. Usually referred to as the male sex hormone, testosterone is a vital hormone for women as well. When a woman is in her child-bearing years, testosterone is necessary to aid in the release of eggs from the ovaries. As a woman ages, her sex drive will typically suffer with low levels of testosterone. Increase those levels and a woman can enjoy a satisfying sex life once again.

Testosterone performs many important functions in the body.

Functions of Testosterone

Many women don’t realize everything their body uses testosterone for. As you age and your natural hormone levels decrease, your body has more difficulty in the following areas.

  • Testosterone is important in developing new bone cells and bone mineral density. Osteoporosis has been linked to low testosterone levels.
  • Testosterone preserves both lean muscle mass and muscular strength. A deficiency in this hormone often causes a decline in muscular strength and lean muscle mass.
  • Testosterone stimulates red blood cells within the bone marrow to promote healthy circulation and cardiovascular health.
  • Testosterone helps to metabolize carbohydrates, fats and protein. This, in turn, aids in converting food into useable fuel and aids in burning stored fat, resulting in weight loss.
  • Testosterone helps to maintain insulin sensitivity, which allows the cells to uptake glucose productively, thus lowering blood sugar levels.

Why Women Lose Testosterone

The ovaries produce testosterone and estrogen. As you get older, the ovaries produce less of these hormones. When a woman reaches menopause, testosterone production in the ovaries can drop down to less than half of what it was before, leading to a deficiency in this important hormone. Hysterectomies and oophorectomies also lead to low levels of testosterone.

When the level of testosterone decreases, many changes can occur, including the way a woman looks, how she feels, how she acts and thinks.

The side effects of low levels of testosterone can be many. Some of the problems that can be caused by low levels of testosterone include the following symptoms:

  • Decrease of energy
  • Sleep trouble
  • Low sexual performance
  • Cardiovascular issues
  • Loss in bone and muscle mass
  • Hair loss
  • Low metabolism
  • Insulin resistance
  • Weight gain

BHRT Can Support Healthy Testosterone Levels

Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) replaces hormone deficiencies with bio-identical hormones. These hormones are plant-based, and are molecularly identical to the hormones that are naturally produced in a woman’s body. Using BHRT to restore testosterone levels back to normal allows these hormones to be metabolized naturally and then excreted. BHRT can counter the many side effects of hormone deficiencies.

Using BHRT for testosterone deficiency is less likely to create the side effects that traditional hormone replacement therapy may produce. And, unlike traditional hormone replacement therapies that are usually available only in standard doses, BHRT doses are produced individually for each person, based on their specific needs.

Using BHRT to Feel Better

BHRT can enhance your life in many ways. As your hormone levels return to normal, you may experience some or all of these changes.

  • An improvement in overall well-being
  • An increase in energy for everyday activities
  • Ease in maintaining a healthy weight
  • Improved mood to fully enjoy life’s pleasure moments
